The Ohio State Buckeyes are actively recruiting the 2025 class, and some big-name targets are on the table. Carson McRae has the latest.
The 2024 cycle is nearing its end, and the Buckeyes have obviously been in the thick of recruitment with some major 2025 standouts. In today’s Bullet Points session, we deep dive into some recruitments that are starting to trend in favor of the Buckeyes.
As we hear the saying so often, “The Best in Ohio, Stay in Ohio.” That’s exactly what we’re talking about with these first two prospects. For starters, the Buckeye State has been pumping out some high-quality Linebackers in the past three cycles, from CJ Hicks and Gabe Powers to Reid Carrico, and Garrett Stover. Now the next big name the Buckeyes look to add is Eli Lee out of Archbishop Hoban (Akron).
The 2025 monster MLB is listed at 6-foot-3, 215, and plays the game about as nasty as you’re going to find. Lee helped lead Hoban to an 8-1 regular season rallying behind one of the best individual stat lines in the state this year with 117 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 19 TFLs, 2 safeties, and a pick 6. It’s no surprise that Lee caught Jim Knowles and Ryan Day’s radar. The Buckeyes just had Lee on campus for the Penn State game and I suspect when given the green light, Lee will make the jump like many great Ohio LB’s before him. Of note, Lee is listed as a three-star in the initial 247 rankings, but like Stover in the 2024 cycle, Lee will certainly end up a high 4-star by the time he enters college.
Justin Frye has definitely elevated the recruiting game for Ohio State in terms of getting big athletic tackles and reliable guards on the inside. Frye is looking to follow suit after having a solid haul in the 2024 cycle with some great in-state talent in the Armstrong brothers.
Now eyes turn to Toledo, Ohio’s Carter Lowe. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound junior offensive tackle is every bit of the high four-star ranking he currently holds. The number three player in the state of Ohio has been deemed a priority target for the Buckeyes and Day and his staff have definitely made sure he knows that. The Buckeyes may have already done enough in this recruitment to secure a major tackle early in the 2025 cycle. I’d expect to hear something on this one sooner than later.
In some out-of-state news, I’ve received some exciting intel that would definitely be some positive news for Ohio State. I’m hearing that the number one cornerback in the country, Devin Sanchez following his visit to Columbus this past weekend, felt like he does not need to see any more schools before announcing a commitment. I’ve been told if he was to announce tomorrow it would be as a Buckeye.
Again, I’m being told this one is wrapping up earlier than what was to be expected. This would be major for Day and the staff as they’ve missed in the past on some top-level talent out of North Shore, Texas in the past. This would certainly be an indicator that the 2025 class is set up for another top-two class in the country.
