Today is the first day that underclassmen can enter the transfer portal and Ohio State has lost a player early as defensive back Jaylen Johnson has entered his name and will further his playing career elsewhere.

Johnson, from La Salle high school in Cincinnati, was rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 34 overall safety in the 2021 class. He originally chose Ohio State over offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Penn State, and West Virginia.
Johnson spent two season in Columbus, recording 22 tackles (19 in 2022) while playing mostly a special teams/backup defensive back role. He missed most of the 2021 season with a torn ACL. It is unknown whether Johnson will still be part of the Ohio State program for the upcoming College Football Playoff semifinal game against Georgia.
