Ohio State Baseball swept Michigan in Ann Arbor for the first time since 1994. The Buckeyes finished the regular season the right way and head to the Big Ten Tournament.
Ohio State baseball completed a series sweep of Michigan with an 8-1 victory in Ann Arbor on Saturday. This weekend marked the program’s first sweep of the Wolverines on the road since 1994. Justin Haire’s team closed its regular season with a statement and momentum to carry into the postseason.
The Buckeyes head to Omaha, seeded sixth in the Big Ten Tournament, which opens Tuesday at Charles Schwab Field. It’s Ohio State’s first trip back to the conference tournament since 2024. After finishing with 29 regular season wins, sitting six games above .500, Haire’s Buckeyes continue to be one of the stories of the college baseball season as a successful rebuild.
Ohio State has won 8 of its last 10 games, including sweeps of Nebraska and Michigan, and has taken two of three from Michigan State during that stretch. The 6-seed Buckeyes will open the Big Ten Tournament on Tuesday against the 11-seed Washington Huskies.

Beating Michigan by the Numbers
Ohio State jumped ahead quickly all weekend, which continued on Saturday. With two outs in the first inning, Noah Furcht and Dane Harvey were each hit by pitches. Maddix Simpson followed with a single through the left side to score Furcht and put the Buckeyes on the board. Mason Eckelman drew a walk to load the bases, and Lee Ellis did the rest, lacing a two-out double into the gap in right-center to clear the bases and push Ohio State ahead 4-0.
Michigan answered with a solo home run in the fourth to cut the deficit to three, but that was as close as the Wolverines would get.
Ohio State extended the lead in the seventh when Furcht drew a walk, Harvey doubled to put two in scoring position, and Simpson lifted a sacrifice fly to score Furcht and push it to 5-1. Michigan then handed the Buckeyes four consecutive errors to open the ninth, which plated two more runs.
Miles Vandenheuvel capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly that scored Ellis, setting the final at 8-1. Ellis finished with three RBIs, and Simpson drove in two. In addition to being the first sweep up north since 1994, this is Ohio State’s first series win in Ann Arbor since 1999, as decades of baseball demons were exorcised this weekend.
Chris Domke was the story on the mound with a fantastic performance. The right-hander went the distance, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six. It’s the first 9-inning complete game thrown by an Ohio State pitcher in five years, and the second complete game of Domke’s career. He improved to 7-6 on the season with the win on Saturday.
Big Ten Tournament
Ohio State finishes the regular season 29-23 overall and 18-12 in Big Ten play, which is good enough for the sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes will enter through the double-elimination play-in bracket, needing to win to get into the single-elimination quarterfinals against one of the top four seeds on Friday.
Moreover, sweeping Michigan in Ann Arbor, something this program hadn’t done in 31 years, is a confidence builder to carry into Omaha. It’s a reminder of what this team is capable of when it plays clean baseball and gets a complete performance from its pitching staff.
Behind a streaking offense, Justin Haire’s group has done a phenomenal job turning the program around as it enters the Big Ten Tournament with momentum and confidence to make a run at the conference crown.
Ohio State takes on Washington on Tuesday in a late matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 10:00 pm ET/9:00 pm CT in Omaha. The Buckeyes dropped two of three to the Huskies in mid-March, but are playing much better baseball now, which should yield a different result this time around.
