On this episode of Buckeye Cadence, Blake Biscardi and Grant Kincaid introduce Cortez Hankton, discuss why Ohio State WRs will level up, and provide Jeremiah Smith’s players to watch in 2026.
Coach Hankton was very complimentary of Jeremiah, highlighting his “yearning” to be better and to be coached, as well as saying that he is “blessed and grateful” to be able to coach him. Hankton also already sees explosiveness downfield from his unit, but will be looking for more YAC opportunities as both he and Day saw room for improvement in that area. It seems Devin McCuin’s speed will be a key component in executing this for Ohio State.

Jeremiah Smith also had plenty of praise for Cortez Hankton, saying he’s brought a lot of “juice” to the receiver room and the program as a whole. Jeremiah also said that Hankton “fits in our culture and fits in everything we ask for in a receiver coach.” Judging by the comments made by both Hankton and Smith, the transition post-Hartline appears to be moving along seamlessly.

Brock Boyd was highlighted by Coach Hankton as a guy who has stood out to him, particularly because of his advanced football IQ as a true freshman. With Hankton being a coach who likes to rotate his receivers to keep them fresh, look for Boyd to become a useful depth option for the Buckeyes come fall.
On the defensive side, Jeremiah had good things to say about both transfer safety Earl Little Jr and true freshmen cornerback Jay Timmons. Hearing Little’s name mentioned in the spring is great news for Buckeye fans who worry about replenishing the talents lost to the draft.
