Week one of the UFL season has come to a close. Many former Buckeyes took the field and represented a league with new ownership, new opportunities, and new hunger for success on the gridiron.

Birmingham Stallions took victory over the Louisville Kings by a score of 15-13. Kings LB Steele Chambers put on a strong performance despite the loss, recording 8 total tackles and 1 interception. Chambers’ experience and football IQ will serve the Kings well as he prepares to lead his second UFL team to success.

Columbus Aviators fell to the Orlando Storm, 23-17. This game was a disaster for the Aviators from the start. Returner Tre’Von Jones fumbled the opening kickoff, which the Storm recovered and walked in for the touchdown. The Storm never looked back from that point forward and came out with the win.

Head Coach Ted Ginn said in the post-game presser, ” When you play the game of football, it’s hard to come out and start off on the wrong side of the ball.” Newly signed Aviators defensive tackle Jerron Cage did not play in the loss. Head Coach Ted Ginn and the Aviators will take on the DC Defenders next week on FOX.

DC Defenders fell to the St. Louis Battlehawks, 16-10. Defenders DB Gareon Conley converted just one tackle in the loss. The reigning champions did not look the part in what was an offensive disaster for both sides. Now, the Defenders will look to shake off the cobwebs against Columbus in pursuit of another strong season.

Dallas Renegades defeated the Houston Gamblers by a score of 36-17. Former Buckeyes Damon Arnette and Shaun Wade faced off in the matchup. Wade stood out in the win, converting 3 tackles, 1 interception, and two pass breakups. Damon Arnette converted just 1 tackle in the loss. Fresh off a victory, the Renegades will take on the Battlehawks next week.

The United Football League posted great results in week one of its second season, but owner Mike Repole is focused on creating a better product for all football fans to enjoy. The young league will be intriguing to follow as the season progresses and former Buckeyes find success.
