Ohio State football’s Legend Bey and Jordan Thomas became the sixth and seventh freshmen to shed black stripes in Tuesday’s practice.

Freshman phenom Legend Bey has been a standout in Ohio State practice after missing the first two days of fall camp due to a suspension for violating team rules. Bey also missed all of spring due to shoulder surgery. After serving his suspension, Bey returned to practice and has looked the part at running back, reportedly taking some first-team reps. Head Coach Ryan Day has been very complimentary of Bey, calling him a “Poor man’s Tyreek Hill.”

Bey was able to play multiple roles offensively, splitting time among running back, wide receiver, and even quarterback while in high school. Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn said, “It looks like art when he’s running out there.” As the season gets underway, Bey will look to earn snaps in a loaded backfield with Bo Jackson, Isaiah West, and Florida Gators transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson.

Defensive back Jordan Thomas is also looking the part, shedding his black stripe in Tuesday’s practice. The Bergen Catholic product is known for his physical style of play and ability to get to the ball. Thomas finished his senior season of high school with 58 tackles, 4 passes broken up, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble.

Thomas will have his work cut out for him as he looks to compete for playing time alongside players such as Dominick Kelly, Cam Calhoun, Devin Sanchez, Jermaine Mathews, and Jay Timmons. Despite the high level of competition, Thomas has stepped up to the plate and could make a serious impact for Matt Patricia and the Ohio State defense this season and beyond.

Exciting things are on the horizon for the Buckeyes this season. As Ohio State gears up for their week one matchup against Ball State, Ryan Day and his team will have all of the firepower and strong depth needed to face this gauntlet of a schedule.
