Ohio State Recruiting: Buzz Around Columbus After A Huge Official Visit Weekend

The Buckeyes hosted some of their top targets on campus this past weekend. It’s easy to say it went nothing but amazing for the Buckeyes, and it may lead to a possible flurry of commitments on the way.

Diving in, the Buckeyes hosted New Jersey four-star safety Jaylen McClain on his Ohio State official visit. I have been told numerous of times how well of a visit he had and that the Buckeyes are the team to beat. Expect a decision soon from McClain, and it would be a shock to not be Ohio State. The Buckeyes have seen nice returns on New Jersey safeties in recent years, with signees including Jordan Fuller and Ronnie Hickman. In spite of this, it seems the Buckeyes are moving away from Ohio three-star safety Reggie Powers. Powers was in East Lansing this weekend and has started to trend towards the Spartans. Now, Powers is still scheduled to take an official visit to Ohio State this upcoming weekend. Will he still take the visit and will the Buckeyes still hold onto Powers? Time will tell.

Moving on, the Buckeyes have put themselves even higher for Missouri four-star WR Jeremiah McClellan. He was on his official visit this past weekend, and it has been nothing but positives. The Buckeyes are still viewed as the team to beat, and a decision could become before his senior season. McClellan has taken visits to Mizzou, Oregon and LSU. He also hails from the same high school as former Buckeye wideout Kamryn Babb. Speaking of WRs, another target in Maryland three-star WR Elijah Moore was reportedly visiting Mike Locksley and the Terrapins this past weekend, per ON3sports’ Chad Simmons. Now, it seems like the Buckeyes are still the favorite to land Moore, but he’s got a visit set to Florida State soon. At this point, it would be a shock if Moore does not go to Ohio State.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ohio State hosted four-star Illinois EDGE Marquise Lightfoot. It has been expressed all over that the Buckeyes have put themselves in a tremendous spot. Lightfoot has also canceled his Michigan official visit. Despite that, he still has visits scheduled to USC and Miami. The belief is the Buckeyes have a good enough lead to fend off both USC and Miami. Another recruit, Florida four-star DT Jayden Jackson also was on campus. Jackson had an amazing visit.

Another recruit, Maryland four-star EDGE Darien Mayo took a trip to Columbus. Mayo had an amazing visit and the Buckeyes have put themselves in a great spot. The belief is Mayo would be all down for playing for Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson. It seems as if it’ll be a battle between Michigan and Ohio State. Also, worth a note, Buckeye target three-star WR Elijah Moore has been commenting a lot about Ohio State on Mayo’s posts. The Buckeyes have been seemed to be trending away from Florida four-star EDGE Elias Rudolph. Rudolph was at Michigan this past weekend and his visit went very, very well. The Buckeyes will get Rudolph on a visit this upcoming weekend.

Also, this weekend, the Buckeyes have been trending for Georgia five-star DL Eddrick Houston. A huge visitor for this upcoming weekend, Houston has been trending heavily towards Ohio State, fresh off a Georgia official visit. Ohio State received a “Crystal Ball” prediction last night for Houston from 247Sports National Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong. The Buckeyes have been as team in the race for a while, and maybe even the destination. He will announce his commitment on August 22nd. The Buckeyes are battling Alabama, Clemson, USC, and Georgia.

Lastly, one of the biggest targets on campus this weekend was California four-star OT Brandon Baker. His visit has been told many ways, but it went amazing and has made the Buckeyes in the running for Baker. One of the Buckeye commits commented on Baker’s visit and said, “[The visit was] good. He’s a great kid and I think we have a real shot.” There is a strong belief that Baker and his parents fell in love with Ohio State this past weekend. It also appears after this visit, he’s moved his decision timeline up to late summer. The Buckeyes have everything Baker needs and wants in a program.
