Ohio State opens 2025 Fall Camp with a quarterback battle, emerging leaders, and a massive Week 1 showdown vs. Texas.

Ohio State opens Fall Camp today, and the biggest question surrounding the Buckeyes as they begin their title defense, or, as Ryan Day says, their pursuit as the attacking National Champions, is the quarterback battle. That will be the headline throughout Fall Camp.

Historically, Day doesn’t like to name a starter early, and this year is no different. It will be an active quarterback battle between Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz, two highly touted prospects with strong pedigrees.

Sayin enters his second year in the program and is the presumed starter, but Kienholz, now in his third year, has been giving him a serious run. Kienholz’s athleticism is turning heads, while Sayin’s arm talent, evident since high school, continues to flash on tape. Whoever wins the job will have no shortage of weapons.

Led by Jeremiah Smith, the wide receiver room is the deepest in the country. The group features Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Max Klare (TE/Slot), Mylan Graham, and Bryson Rodgers, just to name a few.

On the defensive side, the Buckeyes are loaded with talent but light on starting experience. The group isn’t youthful in terms of playing time. Many have seen meaningful snaps, but the question becomes: who steps into the leadership roles?

That charge will likely be led by Caleb Downs, Sonny Styles, and Davison Igbinosun. All three will be pivotal in stabilizing the younger unit and steering the defense through the season.

The defensive line is another position group to watch. Players like Caden Curry, Kenyatta Jackson, and Eddrick Houston are expected to step up and fill starting roles. While they’ve played rotationally, this season marks a turning point as they move into larger responsibilities. With Matt Patricia taking over the defense, all eyes are on how this unit performs, especially in a heavyweight Week 1 matchup.

That opener against Texas is a barometer game. It will set the tone for the Buckeyes and Longhorns alike, with national implications right out of the gate. From there, Ohio State must maintain its mentality and health throughout the season.

On offense, there’s intrigue around the offensive line and the run game. While the offensive line lacks continuity, it brings plenty of starting experience. James Peoples is a name to know among the running backs, poised to take on a larger role.

And for the first time, Brian Hartline will call plays as offensive coordinator and usher in a new era for Ohio State’s high-powered offense.

The Buckeyes begin their fall campaign with expectations as high as ever, and questions from position battles to team leadership. We’ll have wall-to-wall coverage throughout Fall Camp and the 2025 season at The Silver Bulletin, so stay tuned.
