These four players with breakout potential are ones to watch during Ohio State’s 2025 season as it defends its National Title.
The heat outside is not the only thing heating up out there as the Buckeyes hit the practice field this week to defend their National Championship from last season. Head coach Ryan Day is referring to his team as the “Attacking Champions.”
We all know who Caleb Downs, Sonny Styles, and Jeremiah Smith are, but let’s get to know some guys who may be the unsung heroes for the 2025 college football season.
- WR No. 1 Brandon Inniss
There is no doubt about how talented Innis is, as he was the top receiver coming out of the 2023 class. Innis has played behind All-Big Ten receiver and first-round draft pick Emeka Egbuka the last couple of seasons.
Playing under Emeka not only helps Brandon become a better route runner and pass catcher, but also a vocal leader on this football team, and can fill that void this season now that Emeka has moved on. Brandon Innis had a significant TD late in the game in the win against Penn State last season. I look for Brandon Innis to be more involved in the offense this season and believe his voice will be heard as a leader.
- DE No. 97 Kenyatta Jackson
A lot of buzz is going on about how much Kenyatta Jackson has not only improved in the weight room but has taken the DL room by storm. A guy who has been in the shadows of JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer for three seasons. Buckeye fans have been waiting for his talents to finally emerge, despite the NIL and Transfer Portal rumors. Kenyatta has decided to stay for what could be his final season as a Buckeye. We all know now it is Kenyatta Jackson’s time.
- LB No. 8 Arvell Reese
Reese, another product of the Ted Ginn Sr. program from Cleveland Glennville, where Heisman winner Troy Smith and National Championship quarterback Cardale Jones are from. Arvell exploded on the scene last season, where he was a key player in the run game. This offseason, Reese has taken the Mickey Marotti program to new heights, where he has transformed into a more physical specimen. Alongside Sonny Styles, he scratches more of that service and develops more into a leader, not only with his play but also with his voice.
- TE No. 86 Max Klare
Max Klare, an All-Big Ten tight transfer from Purdue, will give the Buckeyes another weapon on offense. With all the attention being set on the No. 1 receiver room in the country, look for Klare to be utilized a ton. He is a great receiving tight end who will be up for the Mackey award at the end of the season. Klare could be a hero in many games this season.
Honorable Mention Players:
- OL No. 51 Luke Montgomery
- DL No. 53 Will Smith Jr.
- RB No. 12 CJ Donaldson
- DB No. 3 Lorenzo Styles Jr.
