Ohio State has already laid out the groundwork for a heavy reset amongst its recruiting ranks. The plan for the Buckeyes to get back into the top three in the class recruiting rankings has already begun with the class of 2023, but Ryan Day’s staff is making sure to get in early on some big-time recruits. We’ve already seen over 20 class of 24’ recruits earn an offer from Ohio State. So far the point of emphasis has been mainly in the trenches and specifically on the defensive side of the ball.
The Silver Bulletin had the chance to speak with five-star Georgia stand-out defensive tackle Hevin Brown-Shuler. Brown-Shuler is the No.2 ranked defensive lineman in the country for the 2024 class and Larry Johnson has made sure to get in on the coveted five-star early.
“Larry Johnson came up to my school in the winter and my coach informed me that they had a lot of interest in me,” said Brown-Shuler. “My coach told me that Coach Johnson and Coach Walton watched my tape and they were impressed and wanted to offer me as soon as they could.”
Being such a highly-touted star as a sophomore, Brown-Shuler has remained humble in his recruiting process thus far and admits it was a real honor for him to earn an offer from Johnson.
“When it comes to Larry Johnson his resume is really just amazing,” Brown-Shuler stated. “You got guys like the Bosa’s, Chase Young and it’s just crazy to me that he offered. It’s just an honor for him to recognize me as someone who could play for him. He just has all those great talents that he was able to develop and you see how great they’re all doing in the NFL it’s just an honor to be thought of in the same light and be in the position they once were in.”
Brown-Shuler resides in Atlanta, Georgia which has become quite a hot bed for finding power five football talent. Recruits that typically come from that area are often thought of as SEC bound but The Silver Bulletin wanted to know if that was going to be the case with Brown-Shuler.
“My mom and I have talked about that a lot actually,” said Brown-Shuler. “My mom told me to never limit my options, and just pick the SEC because that’s where I’m from. But she didn’t ever need to say that because I’m really open to moving to other places and whatever feels right.”
The most interesting part about Brown-Shuler in terms of his recruitment is that he actually grew up watching Ohio State as he told The Silver Bulletin. As well, he even touched mentioned to where Ohio State currently stands among all his offers so far.
“I’ve always liked Ohio State ever since I was a kid,” said Brown-Shuler. “I always told my mom when I was growing up I’d love to be able to play for Ohio State one day because I knew of the winning culture they had at their school. I already have a good idea of my top schools, and I can definitely say Ohio State is right there at the top of my list.”
Brown-Shuler has a long way to go in his recruitment but it is clear right now that the Buckeyes are going to have their chance to earn his services. Brown-Shuler also mentioned to The Silver Bulletin that he will be heading up with his mother to Ohio State in April to check out the campus. If all goes well, Ohio State may be able to hop out to an early lead for the coveted five-star from Georgia.
