Coveted five-star running back David Gabriel Georges has reportedly made his decision between Ohio State and Tennessee. Here’s the latest.
The recruitment of David Gabriel Georges is finally nearing its conclusion. Sources close to Georges have told The Silver Bulletin that the five-star running back has made his decision and will announce his commitment on July 22 at his high school in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After more than three years of building relationships with coaching staffs across the country, the nation’s premier running back is ready to reveal where he will continue his football career.
The finalists have long been narrowed to Ohio State and Tennessee, setting up one of the most anticipated recruiting decisions of the 2027 cycle. It is a recruitment that has generated plenty of national attention, passionate debates across social media, and constant speculation from both fan bases. Now, the wait is almost over.
A Recruitment Built on Relationships
If there has been one constant throughout Georges’s recruitment, it has been the importance of relationships. Ohio State running backs coach Carlos Locklyn has prioritized Georges for well over three years, making him one of the Buckeyes’ top targets regardless of class. That consistency has paid off, with Georges and those closest to him frequently describing Locklyn as more than just a recruiter.
The relationship has grown to the point where Locklyn is viewed as a “family friend,” something that cannot be overstated in a recruitment of this magnitude. That does not mean Tennessee has been lacking.
The Volunteers have done an outstanding job throughout the process, building strong relationships with Georges and his family. Head coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee staff have remained firmly in the picture from the beginning, making this one of the closest recruiting battles in the country.
Ultimately, this decision will come down to trust. Georges believes whichever school earns his commitment will develop him into an NFL running back. He has confidence in his own ability and is looking for a program where he feels the strongest personal connection.
NIL Is Not the Story
One topic that has dominated the conversation surrounding this recruitment has been NIL. According to sources close to Georges, much of what has circulated publicly has been inaccurate.
The NIL figures attached to both Ohio State and Tennessee have been significantly overstated, and I am told money will not determine where Georges commits. From everything I have gathered throughout this process, NIL is not a deciding factor for either side.
Instead, Georges has remained focused on relationships, player development, and long-term trust with the coaching staff. That has been consistent from the beginning of his recruitment and remains true as decision day approaches.
No Flip Expected
Another important aspect of this recruitment is what happens after July 22. In today’s recruiting landscape, commitments are often viewed as temporary, with many prospects continuing to take visits and evaluate other opportunities. That does not appear to be the case here.
Sources indicate that once Georges announces his commitment, he intends to shut down his recruitment completely. There is no expectation of a future flip, which is one reason he has taken his time reaching this decision. Rather than rushing the process, Georges wanted complete confidence before making a public announcement.
Wherever he commits on July 22 is expected to be where he signs and ultimately enrolls.
Prediction
Having followed this recruitment closely for more than two years, I can honestly say this is the most difficult it has ever been to predict. Earlier in the process, I believed one side held a clearer advantage at different points. Today, I don’t feel that way.
Despite the Crystal Ball predictions circulating online, this recruitment has remained remarkably private. Georges has done an excellent job of keeping his thoughts within a very small circle, allowing him to have the announcement he has always envisioned.
If I had to describe where things stand today, I would call it a true 50/50 battle between Ohio State and Tennessee.
On July 22, one of college football’s biggest recruiting battles will finally come to an end. Until then, expect the speculation to continue, but don’t put too much stock into outside predictions. This has always been a recruitment built on trust, relationships, and keeping things close to the vest, and that is how it will finish.

I’ve had the privilege of working across every corner of the sports media landscape—from covering Friday night lights as a beat writer for PrepRedzone, to reporting with the team at News Channel 4 WSMV (NBC affiliate), and diving deep into recruiting and scouting as an intern at Middle Tennessee State. During my time as a college student at MTSU, I also honed my broadcasting skills at the campus radio station, bringing live sports coverage and in-depth analysis to listeners across campus. My passion for sports runs deep, but nothing fires me up quite like Ohio State football. I can’t wait to bring my energy, experience, and Buckeye enthusiasm to this new opportunity!
