Former Ohio State basketball point guard Bruce Thornton has agreed to terms on a rookie contract with the Houston Rockets.

Former Ohio State point guard Bruce Thornton has signed a four-year, $9.3 million deal with the Houston Rockets, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The 22-year-old spent four seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes before being selected with the 31st overall pick by the New York Knicks. Thornton was then traded to the Houston Rockets on draft night. Houston is the perfect place for Bruce Thornton to learn and develop his skills.

Thornton will look to learn from another undersized guard, Fred VanVleet, the perfect mentor to help him take his game to the next level. In addition to his play on the court, the Rockets will be getting a tremendous leader and person in Bruce Thornton as he gears up for his first season of professional basketball.

Before becoming an NBA draft pick, Bruce Thornton stood out as one of the best Ohio State Buckeyes players in program history. His most notable accomplishment came this past season when he passed Dennis Hopson for sole possession of the top spot on the Buckeyes all-time points leaderboard.

Later that season, the Buckeyes went on to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Bruce Thornton’s career. In addition, Thornton made history as the only four-time team captain in program history. Thornton is a three-time selection to the All-Big Ten Team.

Thornton’s greatest accomplishment, however, is his character and loyalty. Thornton chose to remain with Ohio State despite the lack of success and staff changes. As he officially transitions from college to the NBA, Buckeyes fans will always remember Thornton as one of the best Buckeyes ever to do it.
