Ohio State Basketball: Guard Gabe Cupps will become the third Buckeye to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on April 7th.

Ohio State guard Gabe Cupps makes rumors official and will enter the transfer portal after a turbulent season with the Buckeyes. On3 Sports first reported the news.

Hailing from Centerville, Ohio, he began his career with Indiana. Cupps then made his way to Columbus in 2025 after posting 2.6 PPG in 21.7 MP with the Hoosiers, while hoping to grow into a bigger role with the Buckeyes.

Plagued by nagging injuries and spotty playing time (12.3 MP), Cupps was unable to find the success that either he or Jake Diebler had hoped for. With that being said, Gabe Cupps had strong showings against both Michigan and TCU at the end of the season by flashing standout defense and clutch three-point shooting down the stretch for the Buckeyes.

That kind of play from him is something that Buckeye fans have been waiting for all season and will be a promising sign for whoever decides to give Cupps a chance. He has two years of eligibility remaining, and his relentless effort will be an asset.

As a former Mr. Basketball in Ohio and No. 3 recruit in the state, Cupps’ potential is evident, and big-time programs have been bullish about unlocking it thus far in his career. There is talent there, and his hustle defense alone could be an asset for many programs.

However, heading into year four of his college career, Cupps will undoubtedly have a lot more to prove at his next stop. He will join Ohio State basketball teammates Devin Royal and Colin White, looking for new teams when the transfer portal officially opens on Tuesday.
