Week 5 of college football brought chaos as Oregon outlasted Penn State, Alabama stunned Georgia, and Ohio State dominated Washington.
From double-overtime thrillers to seismic SEC showdowns, Week 5 had everything. Join Blake Biscardi on Saturday Cadence as he breaks down all the action and looks ahead to another loaded weekend of college football.
The night’s biggest drama unfolded in State College, where Oregon defeated Penn State in double overtime. Dan Lanning’s Ducks handled the raucous Whiteout with poise as quarterback Dante Moore delivered clutch throws to secure a signature road victory.
For James Franklin, the loss is another frustrating chapter. He now falls to 4-21 against AP Top 10 teams during his Penn State tenure, leaving more questions than answers for the Nittany Lions.
In the SEC, Alabama toppled Georgia in another instant classic. Head coach Kalen DeBoer guided the Crimson Tide to a monumental road win, finally breaking through away from Tuscaloosa. Quarterback Ty Simpson shined, reigniting Alabama’s hopes in both the SEC race and the College Football Playoff conversation.
Farther west, Ohio State traveled to the Pacific Northwest and shut down Washington behind an elite defensive performance. The Buckeyes’ statement win strengthens their playoff resume and sets the tone for a pivotal October stretch.
Elsewhere around the country, Texas A&M edged Auburn, Ole Miss remained unbeaten by taking down LSU, and Indiana survived an upset bid from Iowa. But perhaps the most shocking result came Friday night, when Virginia stunned Florida State, spoiling the Seminoles’ momentum ahead of their rivalry clash with Miami this coming Saturday.
Week 5 of the college football season lived up to the hype with statement wins, shocking upsets, and playoff-shaking results.
