Ohio State Football: Four Players Shine in 24-6 Win vs Washington

4 Players Shine in 24-6 Win vs Washington

No. 1 Ohio State traveled to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Washington Huskies and came away with a convincing 24-6 victory.

Fans in Seattle are known for “Sailgating,” where they tailgate on boats around the stadium, located right on the water in Seattle. While it was expected to be a sea of purple, plenty of scarlet filled the stands as the Buckeyes secured the win.

Let’s take a look at four standout players from the game:

Julian Sayin

Sayin did everything that was asked of him in this victory, passing his first true road test with poise and efficiency. The young quarterback avoided mistakes and kept the offense on schedule. He finished 22-of-28 for 208 yards with touchdown passes to Jeremiah Smith and CJ Donaldson.

As the season progresses, look for Ryan Day and Brian Hartline to trust their quarterback more in pushing the ball downfield to playmakers like Smith, Carnell Tate, and Max Klare. Road tests at Illinois, Wisconsin, and Purdue await as well as a high-stakes home matchup with Penn State before the season-ending showdown with Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Jeremiah Smith

When in doubt, get the ball to No. 4. Jeremiah Smith continues to be the go-to receiver for Sayin, hauling in eight catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. He came up big on several third downs, extending drives and setting the tone for the passing game.

So far this season, Smith has totaled 20 receptions for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns. Could this be the year he takes home the Biletnikoff Award? Time will tell, but he’s certainly building his case.

Kayden McDonald

Kayden McDonald was a force up front and proved nearly unblockable against the Huskies’ offensive line. He lived in the backfield, recording 7 tackles (4 solo), 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss while pressuring quarterback Demond Williams throughout the night.

Ohio State’s defensive tackle depth has been a strength all year, but McDonald continues to lead the way. Alongside Eddrick Houston, Tywone Malone, and Will Smith Jr., he gives Larry Johnson and Matt Patricia a disruptive rotation in the trenches.

Caden Curry

Caden Curry delivered perhaps the best performance of his Buckeye career. Teaming up with McDonald, Curry constantly harassed Williams and dominated the line of scrimmage. He racked up 11 tackles (9 solo), 3 sacks, and 5 tackles for loss.

Curry also played a key role in limiting Washington running back Jonah Coleman to just 70 yards. With numbers like these, Curry is starting to build an All-American resume. If he keeps playing at this level, Ohio State’s defense is already holding opponents to under five points per game and will remain one of the most feared in the country.

What’s Next

The Buckeyes return home to Columbus to take on Minnesota under the lights on NBC. It’s Homecoming, one of the most exciting events of the year at Ohio State, and the team will look to keep the momentum rolling.
