Ohio State defeated Ohio 37-9 on Saturday night and four Buckeyes stood out for their performance against the Bobcats.

In front of 105,000+ fans who showed up for the State of Ohio wearing Scarlet and Gray or Green and White, the Buckeyes prevailed, defeating the pesky Bobcats 37-9. Four players stood out in the win over Ohio:

Jeremiah Smith

Jeremiah Smith is now the fastest player in Ohio State history to reach 1,500 career receiving yards. He once again dominated the passing game, hauling in nine receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown.

Smith also had one carry for 17 yards and another score. He even lined up at punt returner, though that attempt went for -6 yards. What does this mean for Smith moving forward? Could we see him with even more touches as he builds a potential Heisman campaign? Time will tell, but the star receiver is off to another good start in his sophomore season.

Bo Jackson

Is Bo Jackson about to become the Buckeyes’ featured back? That remains to be seen. But against the Bobcats, he certainly made his case.

Jackson ignited the rushing attack with a 64-yard burst in the second quarter, finishing with nine carries for 109 yards  an impressive 12.3 yards per attempt. He has provided the spark that Ohio State’s run game has desperately needed this season, rushing for over 100 yards in back-to-back games.

As a team, the Buckeyes rushed for 225 yards. Don’t be surprised if Jackson is more heavily featured in the offense going forward.

Caden Curry

Caden Curry has been patiently waiting behind Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau for three seasons. On Saturday, his patience paid off.

Curry made big plays in key moments, finishing with 4 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 pass deflection. He’s quickly becoming a cornerstone of the defensive line a unit that has the potential to be one of the best in the country. More than just production, Curry is emerging as a leader and an emotional spark for the Buckeye defense.

Beau Atkinson

This was the breakout performance Buckeye fans have been waiting for from Beau Atkinson. The former All-ACC transfer from North Carolina had a disruptive game, constantly pressuring quarterbacks Parker Navarro and Nick Paulous.

Atkinson finished with 2 tackles, 2 solo stops, 1 sack, and 2 tackles for loss. As he grows in Matt Patricia’s defense, Atkinson looks primed to become a key part of Larry Johnson’s defensive line rotation.

What’s Next for the Buckeyes

Ohio State now heads into its first bye week of the season before traveling west to face the Washington Huskies in Seattle. Game time has yet to be announced, but Husky Stadium is widely regarded as one of the toughest environments in college football.

Ryan Day’s squad will use the bye to rest, heal up, and prepare for what promises to be a massive test against the Huskies.
