Ohio State rolls to a win against Grambling State. Julian Sayin broke a record and defense pitched a shutout.

The Buckeyes steamrolled through their Week 2 opponent, the Tigers. Ohio State beat Grambling State 70-0. The starters were pulled at halftime, and that did not slow the Buckeyes down. A lot of newer faces made plays. Overall, credit goes to the whole team and coaching staff for staying focused all game and not relaxing once up so big.

Julian Sayin Sets Record

QB1 proved to be that guy today, setting the record for most completions to start a game for Ohio State at 16 straight. The previous record was set by Will Howard at 14 just last year. Sayin really showed up in a big way, going 18/19 for 306 yards and 4 TDs. He was highly accurate with on-time throws except for the one INT. Great decision-making when he was in and a big reason this team looks like they can make another run this year at the big one.

Offensive Standouts

Many guys stood out on offense after this game, some we were ready to see and some new faces. Jeremiah Smith made a strong campaign yesterday for his Heisman hopes with 5 receptions, 119 yards, and 2 TDs. Carnell Tate had the catch of the day and once again proves he would be WR1 on almost every team in the nation besides the Buckeyes. CJ Donaldson looks to be RB1 after this performance. Freshman Bo Jackson burst onto the scene with over 100 yards on just 9 carries and looked great doing so.

This tight end unit is deep. We played 5 guys, and they all contributed. Will Kacmarek and Jelani Thurman hauled in a TD apiece. Max Klare caught a pass as well. Nate Roberts and Bennet Christian did the dirty work. This unit, top to bottom, is exceptional. Coach Keenan Bailey has to be excited about what he has done with this group.

Defensive Shutout

The defense only let Grambling State into FG range once. That might have been their worst drive all game. Guys were flying around making plays all day. We have a great LB group. Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, Payton Pierce, Riley Petijohn, and TJ Alford all made plays today. Riley Pettijohn scored a TD and caused a fumble not too long after. He seems to be the future of this room and legit.

Kayden McDonald proved he is the guy in the middle up front, making some plays that stood out and forcing a fumble for Pettijohn to score on. Lorenzo Styles flew around and made plays today too. Caleb Downs had himself an INT. Freshman Zion Grady got a sack in the 2nd half. This whole group played fast and violent. Championship-level defense from 1st team to 3rd string and beyond. Buckeye fans have to love what they see out of this group.

Ohio State Poised to Make Another Run

Great overall team performance on Saturday. We got to see some newer faces make plays and some we expected as well. It was nice seeing future talent get playing time. We also let our backups play open and free and not just run the ball. This team can build confidence off of this win and try to have a similar performance next week against the Ohio Bobcats.

With this type of performance and the rest of the Top 25 landscape, the Buckeyes look like a very strong contender to repeat as the Champs!
