The Silver Bulletin zeros in on some 2025 recruiting news Buckeyes fans need to be aware of heading into a big final stretch for Ohio State.
From a possible flip for Ohio State, to a possible flip against the Buckeyes, today is a rumor mill loaded Bullet Points session.
The Buckeyes have a very winnable schedule down the stretch, which should see them making the Big Ten Championship game as long as they show up. With that being said, there should be some good news coming from some big time recruits that we will touch on.
As of yesterday, Alabama lost big time five star WR prospect Caleb Cunningham to Ole Miss, which means Ohio State now is back in the lead with the top class in 2025. The Buckeyes will look to capitalize off this momentum when looking at other recruits on Alabama’s radar. Specifically, with one player Ohio State just recently hosted in four star Alabama RB commit Anthony “Turbo” Rogers for the Purdue game.
I was originally going to release some info on him before the game but figured it would be better to wait and hear how it worked out following the visit. From everything I was told before the visit, I was inclined to think Rogers would end up a Buckeye as there was no major NIL offer coming from the Bama side and Ohio State has had the winning momentum on their side. Following the visit, my belief for a flip has heightened, Rogers left the visit with a pretty good taste of Columbus and the coaching staff.
With the amount of unknown going on in the Bama program, like what will the program look like without Jalen Milroe, and will Kalen DeBoer be able to replicate constant SEC title births, many recruits have lost the allure of committing to the Tide. Knowing that though, means Rogers interest in Ohio State should spark the Alabama staff to throw a larger NIL package at him to keep him committed. I’m skeptical they get it done, the Buckeyes are a THREAT here.
Moving on to some not so positive news, the Buckeyes definitely have a recruit treading water right now. Zahir Mathis, the 6’6 225-pound edge rusher out of Philadelphia, PA has never stopped being recruited by the in-state Nittany Lions, along with Alabama. James Franklin and the PSU staff have used the emergence of their fellow Philadelphia, PA pass rusher in Abdul Carter to mend the gap in the recruitment between the Buckeyes and the pack.
Although I do believe Mathis is firmly committed to the Buckeyes, the home state Nittany Lions are making their case as Carter is expected to be a top round pick. On the other side of it, Deboer and Co have made their push as well for Mathis. Ultimately, I’ve come to understand Mathis is more likely to stay closer to home and not leave Big Ten country. Ohio State will do everything they can to hold on to the Nations 5th ranked edge rusher.
Finally, of course we need to finish with the biggest news which is of course left with none other than Big Thanos Jahkeem Stewart. Stewart is coming off of a LSU visit where he got to watch Alabama decimate the home state Tigers. About 6 weeks ago, I had the Tigers being the Buckeyes biggest competitors here but I think the allure of staying home is starting to wear off for Stewart.
I have been told USC is the odd man out in this race among the other three schools and that it’s now an Ohio State and Oregon track meet to see who can take home the former number one player in the 2026 class. Stewart does have a visit lined up to Oregon on November 23rd for their bye week where you can fully expect Dan Lanning and the Phil Knight check book to be wining and dining him all weekend. That does scare me a little knowing the power of the Nike money, and Oregon holding a 1-point win over Ohio State’s head this season.
Luckily, the Buckeyes will get the final visit in what’s sure to be the Horseshoe’s best atmosphere of the season, November 30th, when The Team Up North rolls into Columbus. I have Stewart leaning Ohio State 80/20 right now over Oregon, but you never know how much green Lanning and Knight will throw at a player.
The final month of the College Football regular season is heating up and we’re surely in for a November to remember.
