Ohio State’s basketball recruiting has taken an interesting turn over the past several years with Chris Holtmann and company putting together back-to-back-to-back stellar classes in 2022, 2023 and 2024. One of the first players to jump on board (at the time) was 2023 guard George Washington III. Since then, Washington has de-committed and now has decided to take his talents to Ann Arbor and join Juwan Howard’s Michigan program.
Michigan has landed the commitment of George Washington III, a 2023 four-star combo guard, who decommitted from Ohio State in September.

The writing was on the wall for Washington back in September when Ohio State was heavily openly pursuing several big-name 2023 guards. Eventually, the Buckeyes landed four-star and No. 31 overall Taison Chatman and are rumored to be a player for household name Bronny James.
Washington, a Louisville native who now plays for Chaminade Julienne in Dayton, de-committed from the Buckeyes on Sept. 5 and promptly visited both Wake Forest and Michigan, suggesting those two schools were the final contenders for his services. Now, he will join a Michigan 2023 class that also includes four-star center Papa Kante.
Ohio State’s 2023 recruiting class is currently ranked fifth in the country, with commitments from the aforementioned Chatman plus four-star forwards Scotty Middleton and Devin Royal, as well as big man Austin Parks. It is no surprise that Washington ended up elsewhere, but the Buckeyes will now have to face him in a heated conference rivalry.
