2023 Tight End Ty Lockwood De-Commits from Ohio State

The Buckeyes have lost another member of their 2023 class. Just a few days after losing cornerback Dijon Johnson, Tennessee tight end Ty Lockwood announced that he will de-commit from Ohio State and flip to  Alabama.

Lockwood, rated as the No. 141 overall player in the 2023 class and the No. 9 tight end, visited Alabama last week and ultimately was swayed to back off his commitment to the Buckeyes. This development comes as a bit of a surprise, as Lockwood, who had been committed to the Buckeyes since August of 2021, was one of the most vocal leaders of an Ohio State 2023 class that has seem its ups and downs in the past few months.

Ryan Day was vocal about attempting to take two tight ends this cycle, and for a brief moment, the Buckeyes indeed had two committed (Lockwood and Jelani Thurman, who is also coming off a recent visit himself to Auburn). Now, if this dream is to come to fruition, Day will have to look elsewhere.

Ohio State’s 2023 class is still rated inside the top-five by all recruiting services, with 18 players committed.
