The No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes host the Maryland Terrapins today at 1:00 pm ET on CBS, live from Value City Arena.
The 13-5 Buckeyes resume play after having yet another game cancelled this season. However, this time travel issues and severe winter weather were the cause. The last time Ohio State took the court, they suffered an 81-78 defeat against Purdue. Trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, the Buckeyes rallied to tie the game before Jaden Ivey nailed a three with .6 seconds remaining.
Ivey, who finished with 21, defeated the Buckeyes with a last second basket for the second time in as many seasons. The Buckeyes were led in scoring by Malaki Branham and EJ Liddell who both scored 20 points, Cedric Russell and Eugene Brown also added nine points a piece off the bench.
Maryland enters the contest with a record of 11-11, having lost 8 of their first 11 games in conference play. On Tuesday, they lost to Michigan State by two points as part of a nail-biter in College Park. They are led in scoring by guards Eric Ayala and Fatts Russell, who average 16 and 13 respectively. The Terps live and die by the duo, whose play and scoring total often determine the outcome of the game. Maryland is one of the worst shooting teams in the country, ranking nearly dead last in 3-point percentage and 3-point fields goals made per game. Thus, the Terrapins rely heavily on their guards attacking and second chances on the offensive end. A road win in Columbus is a tall task for a Maryland team that falls right into the trap of Ohio State’s stout defense.
Yet again, the Buckeyes will be tasked with earning a win following a game cancellation, while Maryland tries to play spoiler in Columbus.
The Buckeyes are favored by nine points on their home floor.
Score Prediction: 81-68, Ohio State
