The Buckeyes are 5-1 after beating Maryland 45-16. So, which Buckeyes rose and fell in this week’s edition of the Buckeye Stock Market?
Beating Maryland was Ohio State’s final test before entering a grueling back half of the season, beginning with Indiana on Saturday. Here’s a look at which Buckeyes improved and hurt their stock against the Terrapins.
Buckeyes Rising
Bo Jackson
Sophomore running back Bo Jackson posted a very strong performance for the Buckeyes on Saturday, rushing for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns. This was Jackson’s seventh 100+ yard game in his Ohio State career. This game is especially impressive because starters Phillip Daniels and Austin Siereveld both missed the contest. Jackson has slowly found his footing, and the sophomore appears to be in a good place ahead of a grueling stretch against some of the nation’s top teams.
Phillip Bell
Sophomore wide receiver Phillip Bell started Saturday as Brandon Inniss works to recover from an injury. Bell caught just 1 pass for six yards, but he made his impact on special teams. Bell returned one punt for 31 yards. Bell’s role with the Buckeyes has been small so far, but he has a chance to make the most of his opportunities moving forward and could see the field a lot more in the near future.
Eddrick Houston
Defensive tackle Eddrick Houston had a strong performance for the second straight week, converting four tackles for the Buckeyes. Houston has been phenomenal lately and will look to keep playing at the level many hoped he would. Houston was asked about his performance after the game on Saturday, telling reporters,
“I want to be the best 3-tech in the nation.”

Buckeyes Falling
Kyle Parker
LSU transfer wide receiver Kyle Parker made his Ohio State debut Saturday after missing the start of the season with an injury. The senior didn’t look like the player many fans expected. Parker caught only one pass for 16 yards in the contest. Kyle Parker’s Ohio State career hasn’t gotten off to the best start, but he still has plenty of time to turn it around.
Brock Boyd
Freshman wideout Brock Boyd got the chance to start on Saturday due to injuries to Brandon Inniss and Devin McCuin. Boyd did not record a statistic in the contest despite the increase in snaps. Boyd has contributed in the blocking game for the Buckeyes in previous contests, but his first start did not go as many had hoped.
Beau Atkinson
Senior defensive end Beau Atkinson drew attention during Saturday’s contest, largely because of his mediocre play. Atkinson committed a key personal foul in the first half, which led to a Terrapins score. Atkinson then committed another key personal foul later on in the game. Head coach Ryan Day was visibly angry on the sideline and told reporters after the game.
Ryan Day takes full accountability for the team’s costly penalties and turnovers, making it clear the standard starts at the top:
“It’s a direct reflection of coaching…It starts with me.” https://t.co/c3urdC9KIC

“There’s too much at stake here. It’s my job as the coach to make sure I can challenge those guys,” Day said. “There has to be a certain level of trust within the program to challenge guys that hard. I think there is. I think they know where I’m coming from. Ultimately, it’s my responsibility. I’ve got to make sure guys feel that.”
