Bo Jackson is standing out at running back for Ohio State, while Ryan Day says the Buckeyes still have work to do along the offensive line.
Ohio State is continuing to work through the middle stages of fall camp, and Ryan Day provided some notable updates Saturday following the Buckeyes’ latest scrimmage.
The biggest takeaway came from the running back room, where Bo Jackson continues to separate himself.
Day pointed to Jackson as one of the standouts from the scrimmage and said the sophomore has gotten off to a strong start in camp. While Ja’Kobi Jackson and Isaiah West remain firmly in the mix, Day specifically highlighted what Bo Jackson has done with his reads, his ability to hit the holes, and his ability to get to the second level.
That combination has allowed Jackson to make an early impression as Ohio State continues to establish its running back rotation. Behind the three backs, Ryan Day said Legend Bey is learning the position, but that his talent is evident. If he continues developing on track, he will make his way onto the field.
The Buckeyes have talked throughout camp about building depth at the position, and Day has said that multiple players are capable of contributing. But Jackson’s performance has put him in a strong position as Ohio State continues to evaluate the room.
Ryan Day confirmed that Austin Siereveld missed time this past week but said they will get him back this coming week and continue evaluating the offensive line.

Meanwhile, the offensive line remains an area Ohio State is still trying to figure out. Ryan Day said Austin Siereveld was out for a few days but is expected to return this week. Ian Moore and Josh Padilla continue to make waves, pushing for the final starting spot. Will it be one of those two or will they both find their way into the starting lineup, edging out Philip Daniels?
However, there was no announcement regarding the offensive line’s eventual configuration, with Day acknowledging that the unit is “still not where they want to be yet.”
That is an important note as Ohio State nears the start of the season. There is depth and versatility up front, but the Buckeyes are still searching for the right combination and consistency along the offensive line. With the season approaching, Day knows the clock is ticking.
“We are in a race against time to get better,” Day said.
That urgency is showing up across the roster as Ohio State continues to determine which players it can trust when the games begin. At running back, Bo Jackson is holding steady as the top choice, but along the offensive line, the Buckeyes still have work to do.
