Former Ohio State wideout Chris Olave has signed a 4-year, $132 million extension with the New Orleans Saints, according to Adam Schefter.

Olave is one of many former Buckeyes wide receivers in just the past two seasons to put pen to paper on big-time contract extensions.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba earned a massive 4-year, $168.6 million contract after leading the NFL in receiving yards in 2025. Smith-Njigba’s fantastic season was recognized with the Offensive Player of the Year award. The Seahawks selected Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Garrett Wilson signed a 4-year, $130 million contract extension with the New York Jets in July of last year. Selected in 2022, Wilson has put up one-thousand-yard campaigns in 3 of his 4 seasons. This level of play from Wilson is notable because he has caught passes from 8 different starting quarterbacks in half as many seasons. Wilson’s one-thousand-yard streak came to an end this past season after missing several games due to injury.

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin signed a 3-year, $96 million contract last offseason.

McLaurin’s contract situation made headlines as conversations stalled into training camp. McLaurin told reporters in a July interview.

“Everything that has transpired has been pretty disappointing. I want to continue my career here; I’ve created my life here, so I want to be here. … I want to make that abundantly clear.”

As the two sides continued to negotiate, McLaurin refused to attend training camp. After a four-day holdout, McLaurin returned to the practice facility before immediately being placed on the PUP List with an ankle injury. After weeks of negotiating, McLaurin requested a trade. With the Commanders on their heels with little leverage, the team finally came to an agreement with McLaurin on a new contract a month after the initial trade request. 

The money earned by these talented players is a testament to the development at Ohio State.

Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline had an undeniable impact on the Ohio State program in his time with the team. These receivers, all coached by Hartline, earned a combined $527 million in extension money. This number will only grow as the Buckeyes look to continue the wide receiver university trend under Cortez Hankton.
