Ohio State has its first commitment in the 2029 recruiting class, and it comes from one of the nation’s most intriguing young wide receiver prospects. Standing at 6 foot 5 and 200 pounds, Austin Miller announced his commitment to the Buckeyes following a visit to Columbus, becoming the first member of Ohio State’s 2029 class.

The Bellflower, California native received his offer from Ohio State during his visit, but according to Miller, the decision was already becoming clear before he ever stepped foot on campus. After spending time with Ryan Day, Cortez Hankton, and the Buckeye staff, the relationship only strengthened and confirmed what he already believed about Ohio State.

“What made Ohio State the school for me was the fit in every category we were looking at,” Miller told The Silver Bulletin. “The situational fit, the on field fit, off field fit, and the support system around me.”

For a prospect as talented as Miller, finding the right fit was more important than simply collecting offers. Ohio State checked every box, and the Buckeyes wasted little time turning a new offer into a commitment.

A Massive Addition at Wide Receiver

At 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Miller brings the type of size that immediately stands out. Combined with his athletic ability and natural receiving skills, he has all the physical tools that have made Ohio State one of the premier destinations for wide receivers in college football.

The Buckeyes have consistently developed elite pass catchers into NFL talent, and Miller believes Columbus provides the perfect environment for his future development. While his recruitment is still in its early stages, Ohio State clearly identified him as a player they wanted to build around moving forward.

The relationship with the coaching staff played a major role in the decision.

“The relationship with the staff is great,” Miller said. “They were very excited to have me and I would say I am closest with my position coaches of course.”

Leading the 2029 Class

While becoming Ohio State’s first 2029 commitment is a significant accomplishment on its own, Miller says the opportunity to help lead the class made the decision even more meaningful.

“It was super important for me to commit and be the first 2029 commit because I am a leader and leading the charge as the first Buckeye pledge means a lot.”

That leadership mentality is already showing itself. Rather than sitting back after his commitment, Miller is already focused on helping Ohio State build the rest of the class around him.

“Definitely trying to get some other 2029s and even 2028s to come join me at the Shoe,” Miller said.

Among the names he mentioned were Texas standouts Ty Snell and Raiden Johnson, Florida prospect James Allen, and California natives Trey Towns and Josiah Boyd.

“All of the 2029s on the Rivals Top 50 watchlist, we all have a group chat so I will make sure to let them know where home is.”

Locked In With the Buckeyes

As expected with any prospect this young, there will be years of recruiting ahead. However, Miller made it clear where things currently stand.

“The plan for my recruitment now is I am 100% locked in with the Buckeyes.”

Ohio State has landed its first member of the 2029 class and secured a physically gifted wide receiver with leadership qualities to match his talent. More importantly, the Buckeyes have found a prospect eager to help recruit alongside the staff and establish the foundation of what could become a special class in Columbus.
