Blake Biscardi and Grant Kincaid break down the outlook on the running back room so far this spring, as well as what was said during the media availability for Carlos Locklyn, Bo Jackson, and Isaiah West. The guys also discuss comments from Ryan Day during his Monday press conference.
What do Bo Jackson and Isaiah West need to improve on in 2026? What does RB coach Carlos Locklyn expect from his backs? Biscardi and Kincaid discuss how the Buckeyes can improve on the ground and what was missing from a year ago.
Locklyn predicts huge steps for both Bo Jackson and Isaiah West, starting with gaining weight, strength, and elusiveness. Getting to the second level wasn’t always an issue for Jackson and West in 2025, but this year, Locklyn and Day are expecting more chunk yardage and explosive plays.
In his Monday press conference, Ryan Day touched on the importance of “communication” for the Buckeyes this year, particularly on the back end of the defense, with the loss of Caleb Downs. Day also discussed how Jeremiah Smith has been “finding his voice.”
Smith has always practiced hard, but being vocal adds to his leadership prowess. Blake and Grant talk about what these statements from Coach Day mean for the team and what to look for in the Spring Game this Saturday.
The Buckeyes will likely be down four running backs: Bo Jackson, Isaiah West, Turbo Rogers, and Legend Bey, as well as offensive linemen Austin Siereveld and Philip Daniels. Expect Ohio State to throw the ball a lot, which will give the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs quality reps.
