Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin met with the media to discuss his 2025 Heisman Trophy candidacy and Ohio State’s CFP outlook.
NEW YORK CITY — Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin took center stage at the 2025 Heisman Trophy ceremony this weekend, representing the Buckeyes as a finalist and offering insight into what makes Ohio State special beyond the spotlight.

For Sayin, the moment is about far more than individual recognition. When asked about the foundation of Ohio State’s success, he pointed directly to the culture inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
“We have a strong culture,” Sayin said. “Guys want to be here, be around their teammates, and play for each other.”
Sayin emphasized that culture is not accidental. He credited Director of Sports Performance Mickey Marotti, known simply as “Coach Mick,” as the backbone of the program, setting the standard that players carry into every meeting, workout, and game day.
That environment played a significant role in Sayin’s decision to become a Buckeye. Reflecting on what Ohio State means to him, Sayin pointed to the tradition and people that define the program.
“The tradition here at Ohio State, the people in the building, and the culture we have here is strong — it’s really special and hard to find,” Sayin said.
As Ohio State prepares for the College Football Playoff, Sayin’s comments offered a clear reminder of why the Buckeyes continue to thrive on the biggest stages. The Heisman ceremony celebrates individual excellence, however, Sayin made it clear that it is a team accomplishment for him and his Ohio State Buckeyes.
Sayin conducts himself with pure class, praising and crediting his coaches and teammates before wanting any spotlight. No. 10 shared a childhood memory of the Heisman from 2014 when Oregon QB Marcus Mariota won the award. He also mentioned San Diego native Reggie Bush as his “College Football GOAT” when asked to name his favorite player from a fixed list of stars.
The Heisman Trophy ceremony will be broadcast LIVE on ABC at 7:00 pm as Julian Sayin, Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love, and Diego Pavia await whose name will be called as the 2025 winner.
