Ryan Day pulls off one of the biggest recruiting wins in Ohio State Football History with the signing of Five-Star Wide Receiver Chris Henry Jr
After a wild 72 hours, Ryan Day and the Buckeye staff were able to secure the commitment of Five-Star and 10th ranked player in the country Chris Henry Jr. Henry had a huge decision to make when it was announced that Buckeyes Offensive Coordinator Brian Hartline accepted the South Florida Head Coaching job on Wednesday, delaying his official signing, which allowed Oregon, Texas, and LSU to all make pitches to Henry, trying to get him to commit to their programs.

Rumors would start flowing on Twitter instantly, with all the momentum shifting to Henry taking his talents to Eugene, Oregon as multiple crystal balls came in favoring the Ducks. Many said that Dan Lanning and Phil Knight were offering a very lucrative NIL deal to flip one of the top players left to sign their Letter of Intent. Every hour it seemed more like the Buckeyes were going to miss out on a potential generational talent from Mater Dei, but also not a ton of information was coming out that would make the Buckeyes think 100% he was gone. ON3 came out Thursday with an article which reported that Texas and LSU had joined the conversations and were preparing to offer Henry a very good monetary offer to land the 6 ‘6 wideout.
Ryan Day called five-star Chris Henry Jr. last night, per Rivals, to remind him that Ohio State has had nine receivers selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, and it was a collective effort to do so.

Rivals posted on Thursday evening that Ryan Day made a phone call to Chris Henry Jr and his family to let them know that Ohio State has developed nine wide receivers into first round draft picks, while mentioning that Oregon has had 0 selected in the first round. During his commitment on the Pat McAfee Show Henry would go on to say “I feel like they (Ohio State) are the right fit for me when I made my commitment a couple of years ago.” Henry would also speak about the process for him over the last few days after a question by Kirk Herbstreit about Brian Hartline leaving and the impact it had on his decision. “It was never really about the money. I was getting tons of offers from a ton of other places, double the money… Being developed and ultimately reaching my goals of becoming a first round draft pick.

The past week has been a very stressful week for everyone within the program. In the day of NIL, recruiting battles like these are never easy to win and with Henry mentioning it wasn’t about the money for him means the staff won this battle by the old fashioned way of recruiting. The newest Buckeye would call Coach Day before his recruitment to let him know he was committing, Coach Day would go on to tell Henry “Just know at the end of the day, this is a place where we are going to take care of you… It’s not going to be easy, but we’ve got a great culture… Wait til you hear Buckeye Nation go wild.” Henry, also called Brian Hartline, Hartline would say “You made the right choice.”
