Ryan Day names Julian Sayin starting quarterback after winning battle over Lincoln Kienholz. Ohio State prepares for the showdown against No. 1 Texas on August 30th.

Ryan Day has named Julian Sayin the starting quarterback for Ohio State for the 2025 season. Sayin was in a battle with Lincoln Kienholz, who has been in the program for three years.

This has been a highly contested battle, according to reports, with each quarterback showing different strengths in different areas. Kienholz is the more well-rounded athlete. He’s got more size, provides a run threat with his legs, and is the more dynamic of the two quarterbacks. Sayin, however, has the better arm. He can throw the deep ball, make every throw in the playbook, and has been the best downfield passer.

Ryan Day feels that Sayin will give Ohio State the best chance to win in 2025. Kienholz remains a great, reliable backup option, giving the Buckeyes depth at the quarterback position.

There was a scrimmage on Saturday in which Sayin outperformed Kienholz, serving as the final push for Day to feel comfortable naming a starter.

Julian Sayin will now lead Ohio State into the 2025 season as the Buckeyes prepare for a monster top-three collision against Texas in a rematch of last year’s College Football Playoff Cotton Bowl Semifinal instant classic.
