Ohio State running back Eddie George won the Heisman Trophy thirty years ago in 1995, making 2025 the 30th anniversary for the Buckeye legend.

Thirty seasons ago, Ohio State running back Eddie George etched his name into Buckeye football history, as Eddie George won Ohio State’s 6th Heisman Trophy. The 1995 season was a year defined by power, perseverance, and unforgettable Saturday afternoons in the Horseshoe.

George, a 6’3”, 235-pound bruising running back, put together a season that remains the gold standard for Ohio State running backs. He carried the ball 328 times for 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns, powering the Buckeyes to an 11-2 record.

Eddie’s Heisman moment performance came on November 11, 1995, when George ran through, around, and over the Illinois Fighting Illini for the single-game record 329 yards and two touchdowns. That game sealed not only his Heisman destiny, but also his place in Buckeye history.

Thirty years later, George’s Heisman season continues to live on not only with fans but also current Ohio State players, many of whom grew up watching his highlights. His 95 highlights continue to be replayed at Ohio Stadium, and another Buckeye player will never wear his No. 27 jersey. Still, it remains one of the most popular jerseys sold in Columbus.

Eddie George’s Heisman campaign stands as a reminder that legends aren’t just remembered, but they’re relived.
