Ohio State Football Recruiting: 2026 Four-Star OL Max Riley Down to Ohio State and Clemson, Commitment Looming

Over the past few years, the Buckeye State has started to produce a ton of talent, giving credence to the “Best in Ohio, Stay in Ohio” motto. Well the Buckeyes have the opportunity to do that once again, this time with 2026 four-star OL Maxwell Riley out of Avon Lake, Ohio. Riley recently announced his decision to cut down to his final two schools, Ohio State and Clemson. He spoke to The Silver Bulletin about the decision to cut to those two and more.

Riley  spoke on what led to those two programs, “I think both of them being a better fit for me as an athlete and person than other schools.” But he has a “great relationship” with the Ohio State staff. Offensive line coach Justin Frye’s makeshift OL success stood out to him, “100%, I think very few offensive line coaches across the country would’ve been able to do what he did.” He told us that he can “For sure” see himself wearing the Scarlet & Gray. Riley spoke on Ohio State’s national championship win saying, “I think just seeing the way they responded to adversity is a big testament to the culture there.”

The 6’4 235lbs OL has a decision looming but it’ll come after visits. Riley said, “I’ll probably take one more unofficial to both and hopefully have my mind made up after those visits.” Despite that, Clemson and Ohio State are in a head-to-head battle to secure a commitment from Riley. It is going to be a tough one, but time will tell to see if the Buckeyes can fight off Clemson. Coach Frye could start his 2026 Class off very nicely if he can land Riley.
