Ohio State needed another body on the offensive line and they got one today. Onainwa is the second offensive lineman to choose the Buckeyes out of the transfer portal, after Minnesota’s Phillip Daniels did so last week.
The 6’6 345 pound OT picked Ohio State over Florida State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and others. Onianwa played a huge part in the Rice’s offensive line and was the key part to that line. He’s been a full time starter for the Owls since his Redshirt Freshman season, starting in 34 games the past three seasons. The offensive tackle will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Evidently, he was one of the most sought after tackles in the portal. He only allowed one sack in 294 pass-block attempts. The Katy, Texas native is an all around monster in the trenches, and will be a great contribution to the Buckeyes offensive line. Justin Frye, who has been maligned for his lack of recruiting success in recent years, lands another outstanding portal tackle, with a ton of upside. Onainwa is very capable of making himself a future NFL starter under Frye’s development.
The Buckeyes land arguably one of the best tackles in the country, and still aren’t done in the portal. A big, mean, force will be apart of the Buckeyes offensive line.
