The transfer portal is buzzing and another Ohio State player has entered as it was announced today that defensive back Cameron Martinez will look for another school at which to play in 2024.
Ohio State 4th-year safety Cameron Martinez tells me he’ll enter the transfer portal.
The Buckeyes defensive back is open to playing either side of the ball at next stop. He was a two-time Michigan HS Player of the Year (2018-2019) and the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019.

Martinez was a four-star player out of Muskegon, Michigan in Ohio State’s 2020 class. He was touted for his versatility, as he was a stud high school player on both offense and defense. After redshirting in 2020, Martinez stuck at defensive back and played three seasons for the Buckeyes, with the biggest chunk of playing time coming in 2021. That season, he recorded 23 tackles and a pick-six.

Since 2021, however, Martinez’s playing time has been cut thanks to transfer portal additions (most notably Tanner McCalister) and the emergence of other younger players (Lathan Ransom, Sonny Styles, Malik Hartford). Martinez recorded just two tackles this season.
Depending on the status of Ransom, Ohio State will return most of their safety production next year, with the exception of Josh Proctor, who has exhausted his eligibility. Perry Eliano will still have a talented and experienced room to work with in 2024.
