The Ohio State football team has its QB1, as Ryan Day ends the quarterback battle at the right time before the Buckeyes’ third game.
One of the biggest questions concerning this year’s Ohio State football team was who would take over for C.J. Stroud at quarterback. Head coach Ryan Day has now named his quarterback to lead the team at the right time.
The Ohio State football team has a big game against Notre Dame next week, so head coach Ryan Day settled on his starting quarterback the rest of the way heading into the game against Western Kentucky. That was a good move so Kyle McCord can work on things he needs to improve without looking over his shoulder.
It was a hard-fought battle between McCord and Devin Brown in both the spring and fall camps, but the junior won the starting spot and separated himself in the first two games of the season. Granted, McCord had many more reps, but he was more productive than Brown was, and the offensive efficiency was better.
In the first two games, McCord was 34 of 53 passing for 497 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Brown was 8-16 for 99 yards and no TD passes.
Coach Day naming a QB1 the week before leading up to the Notre Dame game was the right move because the offense has struggled at times the first two games. That hasn’t been just because of the quarterback play, but now the other players on offense know who their leader is and hopefully will get in sync.
Apparently, Brown is expected to get more reps, and that’s a good thing. A backup QB is only one play away from being the starter, so the more reps, the better. But it’s still a good situation when the other offensive players know who will be behind center so everybody can get on the same page. Hopefully the entire Ohio Football team can before making the trip to South Bend.
