We’re officially mid-June which may as well be called mid-Official Visit month, as many of the nation’s top recruits have already taken major business trips across the country. In today’s Bullet Points session, we will break down where the Buckeyes currently stand at the halfway point in June.

Let’s dive into some recruits who have already stopped in Columbus. The Buckeyes had a chance last weekend to host some big-time players in 2024. In terms of the biggest movers, there was no one else. The staff made as big of a move on in terms of a recruit as much as Eddrick Houston. I’ve had my thumb on this one for a couple of years with my contact at Buford. Going into the visit, he commented, “Ohio State needs to pull out all the stops for him, and it should position them well.” I’ve said it for a while, but it would be almost criminal if the Buckeyes lost Houston, as he’s been a fan of the program for a long time. The visit went great, and I have the Buckeyes leading for him. With Georgia as the likely team, it will come down to the wire with his services.

Another big mover was Jayden Jackson. I’ve heard from various sources that he’s been due to “pop” in his recruitment and announce he’s a Buckeye for a while. Ohio State indeed pulled out all the stops and treated his official last weekend, similar to current Buckeye defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau. Showing Jackson and his family l love in terms of their Samoan heritage was important, and I think we can expect this one to shut down very soon.

The Buckeyes also had the chance to impress major Five-star and the No.1 offensive tackle in the country Brandon Baker. Baker is a Mater Dei product, and as we know, Ohio State has yet to strike gold from the California High School powerhouse. My read has always been that the elite west coast product is seriously considering the Buckeyes, but following the visit and speaking to some sources close to Baker, I’m going as far as to say they are my leader at this point. I do not believe this recruitment is even close to ending, but Ohio State did an excellent job with Baker and his family.

A source close to the Baker camp informed me that the family was very impressed with Ohio State and would not stand in the way of him moving across the country to Columbus if he chose the Buckeyes.

A couple more names who Ohio State surely impressed but will likely end up taking all of their visits before making it official, Marquise Lightfoot and Edwin Spillman. I have been told the Buckeyes did an excellent job with both. In fact, a slew of crystal balls began to roll in for Lightfoot. I expect him to make a decision following his visits at the end of June, and my personal crystal ball also says he will be a Buckeye come that time.

On the other hand, Spillman had a great visit, but I still struggle to see the Buckeyes pull the highly regarded four-star out of Nashville. Spillman is one of those players who has been expected to end up at an SEC school for a long time, although I have the Buckeyes now jumping on Georgia in his recruitment. I believe the home state Volunteers will be too much in this recruitment.

As always, stay tuned for the next Bullet Points session.
