Bullet Points: Updates On The Ohio State Recruiting Trail

The Buckeyes have sure been on quite the run since our last Bullet Points session. From landing Austin Siereveld to land the top passer and overall player in the 2024 class in Dylan Raiola. In this weeks Bullet Points we will outline the biggest major shifts on the recruiting trail as of late.

The first guy were going to take a look at is expected to make his announcement in the coming month of June. The American Heritage five-star WR and No.1 pass catcher in the country Brandon Inniss has a likely top three consisting of Ohio State, USC, and Alabama.

Inniss will be coming up to Columbus next month to show both of his parents around Ohio State which is always a good sign. His father currently is the only one who has seen it so far. In the world of recruiting, any time you see a player have to bring that second parent to campus you know it’s a good sign for that school. In this case I can definitely say the rumors of Inniss being silently committed and waiting for both of his parents blessings before pledging his services to the Buckeyes is very real. In fact, I would not be surprised to see Inniss commit to the Buckeyes within a couple days concluding his visit.

The next guy I’d like to zero in on is also the No.1 WR in his class (2024). Jeremiah Smith is not only the top pass catcher in the country for that class but he’s also the No.3 overall recruit. The Buckeyes are in a very strong position right now to land again the top WR in the country for a few reasons. First off, Ohio State has really started to build it’s pipeline in the sunshine state since Ryan Day took the reigns four years ago.

Smith has seen former teammates Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Ryan Turner also join the Buckeyes so having a couple past teammates can never hurt. However, the largest reason as always why a top WR in the country would want to come to Ohio State is Brian Hartline. Again, it’s all regurgitation at this point but he just continues to keep reeling in the top playmakers in the country and it appears Ohio State is also in the driver seat in this recruitment.

Furthermore, if the Buckeyes did not already have those two advantages in their recruitment already, it may help that Raiola has told Smith that he’s his top priority in recruiting him to join the 2024 class. Smith seems to has been reciprocating his interest to Raiola and the two are really starting to form a bond. At this point in time I do not see the Buckeyes losing here.

Finally, we must address the latest negative news coming to Ohio State on the recruiting trail and that is the fact that Richard Young cancelled his final official visit to Columbus. Does this mean the Buckeyes are out of it? Absolutely. The one time Buckeye lean and top RB in the class of 2023 has been another player that has decided that NIL is the leading factor in his decision.

As someone who has had a great rapport with a source close to that recruitment, Young believes the chance to earn an NIL opportunity with the Tide is too great to pass down. After Alabama got spurned a couple times on recruits in the last cycle, Alabama boosters put their money where there mouth is and dished out an NIL deal that does not sound like it’s going to get beat. With all that being said the window for the Buckeyes to land another top three RB in the country has dramatically dropped.

Stay tuned for more Bullets in the weeks to come.
