Once a highly touted 4-star prospect and top 10 at his position (WR), Gee Scott Jr found himself lost in the wide receiver shuffle, coming into a room that would include Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming. This is nothing new to the Buckeyes as Jameson Williams famously had the same issue and ended up becoming perhaps the best deep threat in the country while at Alabama, posturing himself as a bona fide first rounder. While there is no shame in doing that, especially in the current climate of college football, Scott decided to take a different route.
This past season he made a steady transition to tight end. Not only to see the field, which is an obvious incentive, but both he and coaches saw loads of potential in that spot. Scott saw spotty playing time this season but stayed the course and was insistent on working on his craft. His athleticism and route running savvy were already top notch, so wherever he could become technically sound was imperative to his success moving forward.
Here we are closing in on the spring game, he has packed on 25+ pounds of muscle thanks to Mickey Marotti and has become somewhat of a Twitter sensation with his catches in practice. At 6’ 3 and 235 pounds, Gee is poised to become a matchup nightmare for any defense.
Scott was absent from part of spring practice, and his status with the team is currently up in the air. However, assuming he returns at full strength, Scott could develop into yet another weapon for a deep and talented Ohio State offense.
