Ohio State Assistant Ryan Pedon To Become Next Head Coach of Illinois State

Ohio State is set to lose an assistant coach as Ryan Pedon, who has been with the Buckeyes for five seasons, will become the new head coach of Illinois State, per a report from the Columbus Dispatch.

“From afar, I’ve always thought that this was a great job,” Pedon told the Dispatch. “The more I dug on it, I realized it’s a great campus, it’s a tremendous community, it has a great location. It checked all my boxes in terms of what I’m looking for and I think it’s a place we can recruit and attract the caliber of players we want to build a program with.”

Illinois State saw their season come to an end yesterday after losing in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Tournament to finish with a 13-20 record. Former head coach Dan Muller, who was in his tenth season with the program, left after 26 games.

Pedon, a Columbus native who played collegiately at Wooster, served as an assistant with Holtmann since 2015 at Butler. He mostly worked with the offense during his time at Ohio State. He will continue to serve as an assistant until the Buckeyes season comes to a close following their (assumed) NCAA Tournament appearance. The Buckeyes longest-tenured assistant will now be Jake Diebler, who is in his third season in Columbus.
