The Buckeyes have only dished out 32 offers nationally among the class of 2024. This cycle of athletes is considered very deep in terms of depth and talent, making any player holding an offer currently from Ohio State very elite. 

In terms of in state depth, there is only one player in the 2024 class who holds an offer from Ohio State and that is Glenville, Ohio’s own Bryce West. The Silver Bulletin had the chance to catch up with the talented young cornerback and West was about excited as you would expect from someone who grew up rooting for the Buckeyes.

“The feeling was just amazing, that was the offer I worked my whole life for,” said West. “Just to get that offer, it’s something special to me.”

As Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day often does with in state sophomore recruits, he makes sure to get in early on the recruiting process in terms of offering a player. This is no change here as Day wasted no time offering the coveted cornerback. In fact, Day came to Glenville to speak to West’s coach when offering him. 

“My Coach called me down to the office and told me that Ryan Day had watched my film and liked what he had seen and then I got the offer,” said West. “It was an amazing feeling, he came down and sat with my Coach and just like that I earned an offer…It was such a great feeling.” 

Glenville has been home to many Ohio State greats such as current New Orleans Saints Cornerback Marshon Lattimore, as well as players such as Cardale Jones, Troy Smith, Donte Whitner and Ted Ginn Jr. West told The Silver Bulletin that all the players he’s seen go to Ohio State from Glenville has definitely impacted his love for Ohio State. 

“I grew up a Buckeye fan and they’re definitely my favorite team…I’ve watched them since I was a young kid especially because a lot of players graduated from the High School I knew I was going to,” said West. “I just look at those greats and it makes me realize I want to carry on their legacy and follow the NFL careers they had. Especially because guys like Marshon and Ted come back a lot and they help me out. Ted helps me out a lot, and Marshon, whenever he comes back he helps me out because he’s very close friends with my brother, so just those two guys alone (Marshon & Ted) are very well respected and people I want follow after.”

Being identified by Ohio State this early on is a very good indicator of what is to come in the following years. West already holds 13 division one offers and that number is likely to dramatically climb. As it stands right now, West told The Silver Bulletin that the four schools standing out so far are Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Penn State. However, West did claim the Buckeyes are certainly the leader right now.

“Right now it’s between those schools because I’ve got a lot of connections to those four,” said West. “But yeah I would definitely say the Buckeyes are the leaders in that group.” 

Now as class of 2024 athlete, there is still a ton of time in West’s recruitment before he makes a decision. Like most recruits, West is expecting to take his visits but he told The Silver Bulletin he has already made plans to visit Columbus.

“I was hoping to come down during the spring but now I’m actually thinking it’s going to be even sooner with the way things are going. I may be there very soon even before spring hits,” West said.
