Ohio State Hiring Jacksonville Jaguars Assistant Tim Walton

In yet another staffing move on the defensive side of the ball, Ohio State will be hiring Jacksonville Jaguars assistant Tim Walton as cornerbacks coach.

Walton, an Ohio State alum who was a co-captain on the 1993 Big Ten championship team, served as cornerbacks coach for Urban Meyer this past season, and for the Jacksonville organization since 2019. With 11 NFL seasons under his belt, and 25 seasons as a coach overall, Walton will bring a lot of experience to a secondary room that will also include safeties coach Perry Eliano. Walton also coached in the state of Ohio from 1995-99, when he held a variety of roles on the defensive staff at Bowling Green. He was the defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams in 2013.

Ryan Day appears to be making a total switch on defense. Eliano and Jim Knowles have already been announced as new additions alongside Walton, while Matt Barnes, Kerry Coombs, and several other defensive coaches will now not be returning. Ohio State’s defense was historically inept in 2021, so it is no surprise to see a full turnover.
