The No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes host the Penn State Nittany Lions at 12:00 pm ET on BTN, live from Value City Arena.
Ohio State now sits at 10-4 after Wisconsin exacted its revenge from the first matchup, defeating the Buckeyes on Thursday night. Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, assisted by poor Ohio State shooting from beyond the arc and a lackluster performance on the defensive end.
The Buckeyes tried to make a run late, getting to within five points, but just didn’t have the firepower after EJ Liddell fouled out. Liddell would finish with 18 points, most of which came in the 2nd half, four other Buckeyes also reached double figures. Although the Buckeyes were able to hold Jonathan Davis to a modest game, the sluggish start, poor three-point shooting, and inability to contain Tyler Wahl and Brad Davison became too much to overcome.
Their opponent today, the Penn State Nittany Lions are 8-6 on the season, after beating Rutgers by 17 on Tuesday. Having already lost to the Buckeyes by 10 points in Happy Valley, they will look to avoid a repeat today. Penn State is led in scoring by Seth Lundy and Jalen Pickett, however Pickett has proven himself as more of the go-to guy of late. In the last matchup, the Buckeyes struggled to slow him down as he tallied 23 points. If Penn State wants to upset the Buckeyes in Columbus, they must make the most of Ohio State turnovers, chase the Buckeyes off the three-point line, and control the glass.
Ohio State will need to avoid another poor shooting performance, attacking an undersized Penn State team and looking to open up the floor and create easier shots. Penn State will look to play a scrappy brand of basketball and keep Ohio State from setting a tone and finding any sort of rhythm.
The Buckeyes are favored by 8.5 points on their home floor.
Score Prediction: 82-71, Ohio State
