BOOM! Four-Star Defensive Tackle Hero Kanu Commits to Ohio State!

Ohio State has seen it’s fair share of ups and downs during the 2022 recruiting cycle, but one position for this class that has continued to be a bright spot is the Defensive Line.

Hero Kanu made it official today when he picked the Buckeyes. Kanu had been silently committed to the Buckeyes for the past three weeks but wanted to make it official at today’s Under Armour All-American game.

Kanu picked the Buckeyes over Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. The Santa Margarita DT should round out this defensive line class that now consists of Kanu, Omari Abor, Caden Curry, and Kenyatta Jackson, barring an upset victory in the Christen Miller race. Once again, Larry Johnson wins a major recruiting battle for a priority defensive line target. Kanu will be a very raw product as he only began playing football in high school as he is an international student from Germany.

Johnson will definitely have his work cut out for him in the development of Kanu, but the pure raw and athletic strength that comes from the 6-foot-5, 293-pounder will be everything he needs to be successful in Columbus.

The 2022 class is not fully rounded out yet with likely two to three more additions coming. However, Ohio State is still in a very solid position to add Christen Miller who looks to be a college ready, plug and play type of DT. It can not be stated enough what a win Kanu is for Ryan Day and this class. Ohio State will see the departure of senior Defensive Tackles Haskell Garrett, Jerron Cage and grad transfer Antwuan Jackson. Taron Vincent is still on the fence, leaving just Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, and Mike Hall as locks to return at the DT position. With the addition of Kanu, Ohio State is sure to be four deep at the position with possibly five if Vincent elects to return, barring any other additions.
